Wow! I can't believe it, less than 70 days till the start of our ride. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since the mandatory training start day and the last day to sign up for the trip. There are 135 cyclists signed up to bike. I believe about half of them(give or take) are biking the entire way, others are doing 1 or 2 week segments. My sister Sara and I will be biking the entire distance.
I have been training several days per week since the beginning of March and am now biking 6 out of seven days each week. During the week I am biking 20-30km each day and on Saturdays I have made it up to 78km. It took me just over 4 hours and there was 400m of climbing involved; granted there was also 400m of coasting down hills :). My neck was so sore by the end and I was exhausted. It felt so good though, to be able to do that much. The first week of our trip we'll be doing between 70 and 110km per day, so to be at the lower end of those numbers is encouraging.
My sister Sara came up for Easter, so on Sunday, Sara, myself and my younger sister went biking together. It was fun to be able to bike together. We are unable to train together but to get some experience biking with others was good too. Sara and I went again on Monday. We thought it had stopped raining but just after we started biking, the rain started again. Training for when we can't choose when to ride!
When biking, I'm averaging 20-22km/h when I ride on flat stretches. On hills going up I go as low as 5.5km/h and going down I have hit 60km/h. When there's wind I average 18km/h, unless it's behind me, then I've hit 32km/h. What a great feeling!!! This coming Saturday, I have to bike 90km.
I have begun raffling off my tickets for the quilt I made (it's finished). I've already sold close to 300$ of tickets. Each ticket is $2.50 and the profits from the raffle will go toward Sea to Sea. My mom has been amazing, baking Boterkoek and selling it. Over 500$ has been raised from the baking. In total with the help of many I have fundraised over $3000.
Please continue to pray for me and if you are willing and able, please donate to Sea to Sea on my behalf. I deeply appreciate all the prayers and donations. Tax receipts from donations. Cheques payable to Sea to Sea.
Thank you and God bless!
