Hello everyone,
Its been over a month since my first and latest entry, but I have an update now!
I started my training in the beginning of January. I started off by doing half an hour every morning of a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout from Fitness Blender on YouTube. Their workouts are well put to together, and I was very sore the first few days. Over time, I've become able to do most of the exercises for the entire length of time.
However I am not a huge fan of workouts on their own so last week, but I love swimming so I researched our local swimming pools hours and costs. I started right away going twice a week. The first time, I went by myself, and then the second time with a good friend and the third time with my Mom. I really enjoyed having someone go with me, it was the extra motivation needed to get up and go. I've been swimming more laps each time with this last time being 11 or 12 (600 m) laps in a half hour stretch. I hope to work my way up to 20 laps (1000 m). I have always enjoyed swimming, I did 2 years of Swim Club in elementary school, so this is a great way for me to get my workout in.
Also, since I have hit the 30 day mark of exercising, it is getting a lot harder to keep up with the workouts, so I hope I can begin biking soon. I will keep up with regular shorter sessions of core work, so that climbing mountains isn't as cumbersome. Pray that I will keep up the exercise and healthy eating so that I can have a healthy body weight and a successful trip.
This past Family Day weekend, I went bike shopping at the coast! and yes, it was a successful trip. I am now the proud owner of a Trek 520. I got my bike from Cap's Westwood Cycle in Burnaby. They had very helpful staff, who were greatly appreciated. I even got to be properly sized with their 'machine' bike, which finds your measurements according to the bike you are interested in and adjusts while you are riding it, until you feel comfortable. They then take the measurements found and adjust your bike accordingly. The bike itself was on sale, plus when you buy a bike there, accessories are 15% off. Since I don't earn a lot of $, these sales were welcomed! Cap's was able to install my water bottle cages, fenders, pump, seat bag and bell right away, saving me the trouble. While down there, I was able to stay with my sister Sara, who is also doing the trip, and we were able to share our excitement and worries. She came with me to get my bike, and was able to provide insight (she already has her bike, also a Trek 520).
Now that I have my bike, I am anxious to try it out on the road, which may be sooner than I thought. We got a lot of snow last week, but the roads are pretty much clear already, so I may start pretty quick. I do still need a helmet but as soon as I get one, I'll be hitting the roads. :) Once the snow is gone, I plan to start my training schedule and also bike to and from work, there is a big hill involved, so great training.
Anyways, Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
