Sara and I started off riding together. Fairly quickly, realizing I needed some 'alone' time, I went on ahead. I pushed today. I rode by myself off and on for half the ride by myself. Bonita joined me for the other half, she was also feeling the need to push faster today. To the first rest stop I rode by myself, close to my usual speed. The first rest stop was at a covered bridge, we took photos, of course. After the first rest stop I pushed hard, close to 30km/h. I passed quite a few people, it felt great. As I passed the group Bonita was cycling with, she joined me and we cycled hard to the next rest stop. I really pushed it for those 20km. That rest stop also was at a covered bridge, Harvey took some photos with his drone. I love covered bridges. After that, I rode by myself a little slower, but not much. We have entered an area with a lot of small mountains and a river, and incredibly hot weather. It reminded me so much of the days biking in BC. At the third rest stop I stopped and ate lunch, a tuna salad sandwich, and sat and chatted with several people. A lot of people had ice cream from the ice cream store there. Bonita joined up with me again and we rode at a comfortable pace the rest of the way. We took a picture by a bridge of the welcome to Quebec sign, since we had only gotten a small one earlier. The river we were beside was the border between Quebec and New Brunswick. We crossed a later bridge into New Brunswick. Then we joined up with Brigitte, Anita and Deanna and got our pictures with the welcome to New Brunswick sign or the Nouvelle Brunswick sign; New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province in Canada. They all continued on and I read an e-book by the sign, waiting for Sara to catch up. When she did, we went to join the others at the Brasserie (restaurant) and had chicken fingers and fries!!! We then went to camp at the Sugarloaf Provincial Park by Campbellton. We also have a time change tonight so people will probably go to bed earlier. Please pray for Grant, a cyclist who joined in Ottawa. Yesterday, while cycling, he hit a divider in the middle of the road that stops vehicles from passing cyclists too closely. He rode a bit more, but ended up getting taken to the hospital where they treated him for a few small fractures in his pelvis and possibly his sternum as well. Unfortunately this means he is unable to continue to ride. Please pray for healing and for peace in this disappointment.
