Bonjour! We were up on time, it had rained overnight and was a very light drizzle when we got up. We packed our wet tent and then swept the grounds. It went a lot smoother today. Russ has decided to take the week off of riding to rest. We were almost the last to leave today and before the first rest stop, we were last. We were on a busy main road towards Montreal for over 30km and there was a fair amount of debris on the road. I didn't mind being last too much, Sara's job is to be one of the last so there's a reason to be last. We rode pretty quiet for the first part, due to the busy road, wet roads, and cloudy days. Just before the first rest stop a SAG waved Sara over. A rider that just joined Sunday, had fallen over his handlebars after colliding with a bike in front of him. He had some cuts and scratches but Sara checked him over, cleaned him up and he hopped back on his bike. We continued on and arrived at the second rest stop surprised to see about 20 cyclists still there! Some people take a long time at each rest stop. We ate some watermelon and refilled our water bottles and left before most of the people who had been there before us. We find the longer you stay at a rest stop, the harder it is to get going again. We were on some country roads after that, which was very nice. We had been riding for a very long time and nobody had passed us, so we said we should try to make it to the 3rd rest stop without being passed by anyone. with a few km until the next rest stop, we saw cyclists behind us in the distance. We booked it as fast as we could for those last km, they got closer but we still beat them. We ate our lunch (Nutella and Peanut butter Sandwich!) and continued on. We were joined here by Jane, a cyclist, biking solo across Canada. She joined up with some riders yesterday and was welcomed into our camp overnight. She rode with us today and is camping with us again. Can you imagine doing this trip by yourself and carrying everything you need on your bike? We were going at a fast pace for us today with the wind at our back for the most part. The weather from the first rest stop on was nice and even hot at times. We arrived in camp (Camping du Vieux Moulin) just after 3, and amidst the sound of thunder in the distance, set up our tent and showered in a shower where the water didn't drain properly. Sara headed down to the pool for a swim and I looked at the sky and strapped our tarp down on the tent. That was good because pretty soon it started to pour and did for a good while. I set up my chair at the back of the gear truck on the side, out of the rain, and started blogging. Dinner was roasted potatoes, ham and corn; so good! After peloton we sung the doxology, Praise God from whom all blessings flow". It was nice to sing, I miss it.
